Teachers Professional Development Programme
Pedagogical Skills Development
The Tanzania Tourism Training Programme (TTP) is providing support for
teachers and tutors involved in tourism studies at selected VETA and
NACTE registered institutions across Tanzania. This support is being
delivered through the provision of a Teachers Professional Development
Programme.
Objective of this proposed programme is to upgrade the practical
delivery skills of existing and recently recruited teachers in tourism
and hospitality subjects at selected training institutions including
the National College of Tourism (NCT) for the delivery of existing and
the new National Curricula.
Workshop units delivered to date have included:
Developing Schemes of Work to support
delivery of curriculum
Developing and utilizing Lesson Plans in tourism and hospitality
studies
Selecting and utilizing a range of teaching methods and techniques
Presentation skills
Communications in the classroom
Classroom management and control
Domains of the learning process
Blooms and Andersons taxonomies
Evidence of competency in
teaching
Teachers Technical Skills Development – Industry
internships:
Teachers are required to undertake internships in industry to obtain
first hand work experience in tourism operations in their region,
so that they can better understand what skills are needed in the
workplace.
Intended Outcomes of
the teacher internship programme
- Teachers
become aware of current industrial practice
- Enable
teachers prepare students for their role in industry
- Support better
orientation of future employees to their role in industry
- Transfer of
current practices and work ”culture” to college
teaching
- Internships
increase the understanding of the local industry requirements,
- Internships
are a vehicle for teachers to broaden the relevance of their
curriculum
- Students
become more productive, even at entry level positions, as they
already have the skills required for effective performance at
workplaces
- Students are
more prepared for the workforce, and will find it easier to be
hired by tourism and hospitality employers
